Tips to Avoid Frozen Pipes in Winter
2/26/2020 (Permalink)
Winter is still in full swing which could mean your pipes have the potential to freeze if the temperature drops below freezing; that is, unless you take the appropriate steps to ensure they won't! We have some tips from the Red Cross that are sure to keep your pipes toastier and your wallet a bit heavier.
INDOOR:
- Allow the faucet to drip if the temperature drops below freezing.
- Open cabinet doors in the kitchen and bathrooms.
- Regulate your thermostat to the same temperature during the day and at night. This also goes for times when you are away from home.
- Insulate colder areas like attics and basements in your home to keep the heat in.
- Consider insulating exposed pipes or moving them to a warmer place.
OUTDOOR:
- Wrap outside faucets.
- Caulk around pipes where they enter the house.
- Disconnect, drain, and remove garden hoses.
- If you have any water lines in your garage, keep the door closed.
Even though we do our best to keep our home at its best, sometimes life happens. If your pipes do burst, don't hesitate to call your highly-trained water damage specialists at 731-627-6251! We at SERVPRO of Dyersburg/Union City want to make your water damage look "Like it never even happened."
